The Harlekin-Clique Band from Switzerland in Malta - 12th to 16th February One of the best Gugga Bands in Europe - The Swiss Band - Harlekin-Clique has accepted our invitation to be part of the Leon Promotions Carnival 2010 programmes at various towns, villages and other entities around Malta and Gozo. The Band composed of 46 brass musicians is going to arrive in Malta on Friday 12th February, 2010. Christmas time was really a busy season for Leon Promotions!! But we are really satisfied that we made it happen to the full satisfaction of all our clients!! [img] We must admit that amongst all events, the highlight was Malta's National New Years Eve Celebration at St. Anne Street Floriana. Thanks to the Floriana Local Council, our dream came true after so many years!!! Yes - now we can say that Malta is on the map of the world on New Years Eve. Why wait for another millenium to have a New Years Eve celebration party outdoor in the streets. Malta's main street leading to Valletta was full with thousands of people who gathered together to give a warm welcome to 2010!! It was a great party which ended with a bang!! It was great to be near the War Memorial and enjoy fireworks from all around - from near the Central Bank Area from the Grand Harbour ( fireworks for the Valletta Waterfront) and from the Sliema side ( fireworks for the Grand Hotel Excelsior)...... It was a hard busy season but yes Leon Promotions confirmed once again that they are one of Malta's leading event organisers especially through the last seconds of 2009!! We would like to point out that we feel that it was really unfair the way a section of the local media reported the Floriana New Years Eve event. It was said that the party didn't manage to draw the expected crowds.... This is totally not true... Its a shame for part of the local media that they reported with photos and video clips what happened in other countries and they didn't dare to show how their country welcomed the New Year. We sincerely hope that there was no hidden agenda in all this!! After all, what matters is that all those thousands which attended have already confirmed that this is the New Years Eve they want to have in their country... So the ball is already rolling for the coming New Years Eve!! CARNIVAL EVENTS ALL AROUND MALTA - 12TH TO 16TH FEBRUARY As in previous years, Carnival time is also going to be a busy season for Leon Promotions. For those who would like to join us, we are hereunder giving details of the Carnival events which were entrusted to us this year: Friday 12th February Kalkara from 17.30 hrs till 20.00 hrs At Kalkara wharf, compered by Patrick Vella and with the participation of various Carnival dancing companies Hamrun from 19.00 hrs till 22.00 hrs At St. Joseph High Road with the participation of Joe & Veronica Farrugia, Joe Demicoli and various Carnival dancing companies. There will be also a Carnival Bands Parade with the participation of the Hamrun Bands and the Swiss Band Saturday 13th February St. Paul's Bay from 13.30 hrs till 17.00 hrs In front of St. Paul's Bay Church, compered by Ruth Frendo and with the participation of Joe & Veronica Farrugia, Joe Demicoli and various Carnival dancing companies. There will be also puppet shows and games to be used free by all children. The Swiss Band will parade along St. Paul's Street St. Julian's from 15 hrs till 18 hrs At Balluta Bay, compered by the folk duo Greenfields and with the participation of various Carnival Dancing Companies and the Swiss Band Sliema from 17hrs till 20 hrs At Ghar id-Dud, compered by the folk duo Benny & Tonia and with the participation of various Carnival Dancing Companies. The Swiss Band will parade along Sliema main streets. Sunday 14th February Zabbar from 9.30 hrs till 12.30 hrs At Sanctuary Street (the Bus Terminus) compered by Joe & Veronica Farrugia and with the participation of Joe Demicoli and various Canival Dancing Companies. Marsaxlokk from 11.15 hrs to 14.30 hrs At Marsaxlokk Wharf compered by Tonio Vella and with the participation of Augusto Cardinali, Joe Demicoli and various Carnival Dancing Companies. The Swiss Band will parade along the popular fish market accompanied by various animators in rich Venetian Carnival costumes. Monday 15th February Siggiewi from 16 hrs to 18.30 hrs At Siggiewi main square compered by Tonio Vella and with the participation of various Carnival Dancing Companies. Vittoriosa from 19 hrs onwards At the Parish Hall - Victory Square - The Traditional Carnival Ball with the participation of more than 500 dancers in costume and animators in Venetian Carnival costumes. Live Entertainment by the Swiss Band and stand up comedy by Tonio Vella Free entrance Tuesday 16th February Fgura from 17 hrs to 19.30 hrs At Fgura main road ( in front of the Chain Supermarket) compered by Tonio Vella and with the participation of various Carnival Dancing Companies. This year's Festival is going to be held once again at the Granaries, Floriana on Saturday 24th April. 10 local fireworks factories/ Associations are going into competition for this years title. Each fireworks group will present two large mechanised pieces of ground fireworks to be judged by internatinal judges on four different merits - the best mechanism, the best use of chains, the best pyro products and originality. The public is going to be given also the chance to express his opinion through SMS voting. The winner will be announced on Sunday 25th April at noon and presentation of prizes will follow up immediately.
